yes jose

The Chicago White Sox are still struggling to find consistency, but they hope to follow the lead of former MVP Jose Abreu. The White Sox first baseman is having a terrific month of June and will look to keep it going when they open a series with the visiting Toronto Blue Jays.

Abreu is heating up just as summer is about to hit the big leagues. The slugger is hitting .309 with a .975 OPS that includes four home runs and four doubles in 17 games in June. And perhaps more importantly, Abreu is seeing the ball well. He has stood out just 11 times in that stretch while drawing as many walks.

On Monday night, he will face a familiar foe in José Berríos de los Azulejos. The right-hander spent much of his career in the AL Central with the Minnesota Twins and has faced Abreu many times.

While each has won their fair share of battles over the years, Abreu is a solid 16-53 against Berríos. That’s good for a .302 average and an .857 OPS.

Even though Berrios is throwing much better after a rocky start to the season, the right-hander is still allowing plenty of hard hits and delivering an expected .558 slugging percentage to opposing teams.

Abreu is worth backing at this price to keep up his good month.

To choose: José Abreu More than 1.5 total bases (+120)

The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Welcome to your weekly PSA about Noah Syndergaard giving up stolen bases. No one has given up more this season than the Los Angeles Angels right-hander, and while it can be hard at times to figure out which opponent to back to steal a bag, today he’s punching us in the face.

Thor has given up 15 stolen bases this season, four more than the next closest pitcher and has given up at least one of eight of his 10 starts.

This has been a problem for Syndergaard since his time with the Mets, due to a slow and deliberate delivery to the plate.

Now, he has to deal with the Kansas City Royals, a team with several players capable of stealing a bag when necessary, including Witt Merrifield and Nicky Lopez, but today we’re focusing on rookie Bobby Witt Jr. The Royals shortstop He has stolen 10 bases. this season, getting caught twice.

What also makes Witt the favorite bet here is that he has the best on-base percentage of the Royals’ stolen base candidates at .285 and in his last 11 games he’s raised it to .391. Oh, and Witt can fly at full speed. He ranks in the 100th percentile for sprint speed.

If Witt gets on base tonight, look for him to use that speed to his advantage against Syndergaard and be aggressive on base paths.

To choose: Bobby Witt Jr. More than 0.5 stolen bases (+370)

Jake stays warm

There aren’t many players locked in the way Jake Cronenworth is for the San Diego Padres right now. He will look to continue ripping the cover off the ball when he and the Padres host the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Padres outfielder is making a big push for his second straight All-Star appearance thanks to a June in which he hit .378 with a 1.106 OPS, but Cronenworth has taken him to the next level.

He is currently in the midst of a seven-game streak in which he has a ridiculous 16-29 record. That’s a .552 batting average, and thanks to six doubles, he has a 1.387 OPS and has topped 1.5 total bases in all seven games during this streak.

Tonight, he’ll face Diamondbacks starter and former Padre Zach Davies, who, to his credit, has pitched well this season. That said, his current hot streak has come against the Reds and Pirates. And stripping out those last three starts, Davies is averaging just under five innings per start. This means a lot of work for a bullpen that ranks 26th in WHIP and last in opponents batting average.

Getting value like this on Cronenworth’s total bases feels a bit like stealing.

To choose: Jake Cronenworth Over 1.5 total bases (+130)
