MCU producer confirms the 2 most important heroes of Phase 4

One of the biggest debates in Marvel fandom is an important one: who are the most important characters in the MCU? The two main contenders are Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch or Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. After all, Wanda nearly killed Thanos herself.and Carol Danvers was able to hold her own in a one-on-one fight with the Mad Titan.

However, power is not everything. While Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was never one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, he was still one of the most important. Benedict Cumberbatch’s hero appears to be taking on a similar role, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige even saying that his Doctor Strange is “the anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Now, inside audio commentary of the recently released sequel film to the good doctor, the creatives behind strange doctor in the multiverse of madness have revealed who they think are two of the biggest heroes of Marvel’s current Phase 4.

During the audio commentary of Doctor strange in the multiverse of madnesspart of the creative team discussed two of the most important heroes of Phase 4, and how one of them fell from grace for reasons of understanding and sympathy.

While watching the Kamar Taj action sequence, Marvel producer Richie Palmer stated that “If Doctor Strange is the anchor of the Phase 4 MCU, then Wanda Maximoff is the jewel in the crown.” stating that, in the minds of Marvel Studios, Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff are the two main characters of the first post-Infinity Saga phase of the MCU:

“Yeah, it’s crazy to see Wanda act like this for the first time, it’s very exciting. And for the fans of the comics, we were really excited to bring this to the screen and finally deliver on the promise. Once you introduce the character from the Scarlet Witch, even before it was Scarlet Witch, we introduced her in Age of Ultron, there was always a hope that we can bring her to this place of hers by doing things like [infiltrating Kamar Taj]. And she’s really exciting, and she’s the best. If Doctor Strange is the anchor of the Phase 4 MCU, then Wanda Maximoff is the jewel in the crown.”

During the meeting of Elizabeth Olsen and benedict cumberbatch in the apple orchard, Michael Waldron, the film’s writer, noticed how it was “such an exciting scene for fans to finally realize [Strange and Wanda] together on the screen and that they are both “Great contenders… [as] the most powerful [people] in the UCM:”

“What an exciting scene for fans to finally have these two on screen together. Many times they debate who is the most powerful person in the MCU. These are two big contenders for it, right here.”

Sam Raimi, the director of multiverse of madnesspointed out how his trial hearings “[were] he’s not used to seeing his heroine Wanda” like the bad guy:

“I think this scene that you wrote really hit our test audience in a strong, positive way, because they’re not used to seeing their heroine Wanda turn to the side of evil. It really is a powerful choice, to see one of the heroes go down.”

Despite his turn, Palmer made it clear how “[they] i love wanda, [and didn’t] I want to see her go through the pain she’s been through:”

“I’m also not sure they’re ready to see our hero, Doctor Strange, in a position where he’s up against her. You gave up the Time Stone and look what he did to me, Strange. We love Wanda, we don’t want to see her go through the pain she’s been through. And you could take everything back to that moment.

Waldron sided with Wanda in that “[she was] making some pretty sensible points here,” even though I was certainly doing it the wrong way:

“Yeah, I would say that Wanda is making some pretty solid points here, and I think that makes them the best villains, the villains that you could really believe are the heroes of their own story. Erik Killmonger, Thanos, Loki.”

Raimi praised Waldron’s work, saying how he “made our villain a human being… for reasons we understand:”

“I think that was one of [Michael Waldron’s] best achievements with the script, was that you made our villain a human being, and with reasons that we understand. And if we don’t support her, we can empathize with her.”

What’s next for the two main heroes?

Wanda, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Multiverse
Wonderful

After the events of Doctor strange in the multiverse of madnessThere’s no denying the importance of the Scarlet Witch in the MCU. Not only is she clearly one of the most powerful characters in history, if not the most powerful. Marvel’s ever-expanding rosterbut it’s also bound to do some twisted things.

In Wanda Vision, agatha harkness warns him how one day he will end the world, an event that has not yet happened. could she be the one unleash the potential secret wars Project? It would make a lot of sense given the recklessness shown in the most recent film.

As for Strange, his importance was never in doubt, especially when he was the Sorcerer Supreme. While he may have lost the official title, for all intents and purposes, still occupies those expectations within the MCU. After all, right now it’s currently with Clea from Charlize Theron saving Earth-616 (or some other reality) of a raid.
