The new Netflix documentary film The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist it hits the broadcast on September 21, 2022. It features commentary from Bling Ring members Alexis Neiers and Nick Prugo, as well as Alexis’ mother, Andrea Arlington-Dunne. The group of looted teenage thieves A-list celebrity homes like Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan and more in the early years. Here are five things to know about the real Bling Ring before you watch the Netflix docuseries.
There were seven Bling Ring members in total.
The real-life Bling Ring started with just Nick Prugo and Rachel Lee. Prugo and Lee started small stealing cars in affluent neighborhoods before moving on to larger targets. Eventually, they invited more people to get involved, and there were a total of seven teens and young adults who helped commit the crimes. Aside from Prugo and Lee, Neiers, Diana Tamayo, Courtney Ames, Johnny Ajar, and Roy Lopez Jr. burglarized celebrity homes at one point during the crime spree. However, Neiers claims that Lee “started it all”.
Eight celebrities reported the theft of their belongings by the group
Prugo and Lee scored first paris hilton home. They learned of Hilton’s address and, using gossip websites like Perez Hilton, figured out when Hilton would not be home. Prugo used Google Earth to determine the best way to access the Hilton home, and he and Lee managed to steal thousands of dollars worth of items on their first trip.
The other celebrities he stole Bling Ring from were Audrina Patridge, Orlando BloomMiranda Kerr, Rachel Bilson, Brian Austen Green, Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan.
The Bling Ring arrived at the houses of celebrities several times
Apparently, once wasn’t enough, and the Bling Ring was stolen from certain celebrities multiple times. The group attacked Hilton’s home multiple times and Rachel Bilson’s home between three and six times. Lee and Prugo stole so many items of clothing from Bilson’s house that they sold many of them on the Venice Beach boardwalk because they didn’t have room to keep them all.
The A24 Movie Made It Look Like Alexis Neiers Was The Mastermind Behind The Bling Ring
In 2013, the production company A24 released a film based on the teenage thieves titled the shining ring. The film stars Emma Watson as Neiers and Israel Broussard as Prugo. In the film, she portrays Neiers as the mastermind behind the robberies, but Neiers and Prugo deny that she started the group. Neiers did not join the crime spree until Prugo invited her to go on a hit.
Alexis Neiers shared a cell block with one of his victims
In a crazy coincidence, Neiers ended up in the same cell block as one of his victims. Just before Neiers’ sentence was up, Lohan was booked into the same cell block.. Neiers spoke with E! Online and bragged about sharing space with one of his victims.
“She was crying. She was talking to the agents and, you know, she was just trying to, I really couldn’t understand it, but from what I saw the first day, I mean, she was laying there and just trying to calm down.” neiers said ME! News.
