BOSTON-The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) proudly announced today that all qualified athletes who submitted applications during the 2023 Boston Marathon registration period (September 12-16) will be accepted into the race on April 17, provided Have your qualifying time verified.
“With registration serving as our Opening Day, we can’t wait to start the road to Boston for qualified participants from around the world,” said Jack Fleming, interim CEO of BAA. “On Patriots Day, the determination, passion, drive and unity of marathoners will be on display, uniting our community in the spirit of athletics and our heritage. We look forward to the 127th edition of the Boston Marathon in just seven months.”
A total of 23,267 applications were submitted during the five-day registration period, an increase from the 22,936 qualified applications received last year. The 2023 qualifier field is made up of 13,315 men, 9,930 women and 22 non-binary athletes. 624 athletes who have finished at least 10 consecutive Boston Marathons have already been accepted into the field.
The 127th Boston Marathon will feature a field size of 30,000 participants. The remainder of the field will be made up of athletes representing official charity partners, sponsors, members of our professional field, and other invitational entries.
The BAA is currently in the process of verifying and confirming all qualifying time submissions. Applicants will receive official acceptance notice in the coming weeks once their qualifying time has been approved and credit cards have been successfully charged. Any athlete submitting an invalid time, a final result for a distance other than a qualifying marathon, or a time not within the designated qualifying window will be notified of non-acceptance. Applicants are requested not to submit additional qualification information to the BAA unless specifically requested to do so by a BAA official.
Additionally, the BAA announced that the qualifying period for the 128th Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 15, 2024, began on September 1, 2022. Registration details for that race will be announced after the Boston Marathon. of 2023.
The next BAA event will be the BAA 2022 Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fundon Sunday November 13. Limited entry slots remain and athletes can register within their BAA Athletes’ Village bill.

Why will there be notices of non-acceptance if everyone will be admitted to the April race?
The BAA is verifying all qualifying times that have been submitted as part of the application process for the 127th Boston Marathon. Any athlete submitting an invalid time, a final result for a distance other than a qualifying marathon, or a time not within the designated qualifying window will be notified of non-acceptance.
When will credit cards be charged? My credit card has been charged/it appears that the entry fees have been withdrawn from my bank. What does this mean?
Credit cards will be charged at the time of acceptance. By submitting your request, your credit card has been authorized for payment. If your application is accepted, only then will your credit card be charged the non-refundable, non-transferable and non-deferrable registration fee. You may see a pre-authorization draft on your credit card statement. The actual charge will not appear on your credit card until your entry has been verified and accepted. Only athletes who are accepted into the Boston Marathon will be charged the entry fee.
My Athletes’ Village profile says my qualifying time has been verified. Does that mean I’m in?
The BAA Athlete Services team is actively verifying all applications and qualifying times that were submitted as part of the application process for the 127th Boston Marathon. If your Athletes’ Village profile shows a green qualifying time, our team has verified your time and you will be admitted to the race.
My Athletes’ Village profile says my qualifying time is pending verification. Do you need more information from me?
No, the BAA will contact any athlete who needs to submit additional information. Even if your status is listed as “verification pending” in Athletes’ Village, if you have submitted a valid qualifying time and current credit card, you will be admitted to the race.
Will registration for the 2023 Boston Marathon be reopened to qualifiers?
